Pen Pal Letters3 文通の返事を書きました

Kyuchu third-year students answered their pen-pal letters from Immanuel College Middle School in Adelaide, Australia. This time the students answered the questions their pen-pals asked in the letters we received in December and taught them more about Japanese culture. This time the format was the following:
1) Greeting in Japanese
2) Answer to pen-pal's questions in Japanese
3) About Japanese Christmas and New Year's in English
4) About Japanese nengajo in Japanese
5) Closing greeting in Japanese
These are some of the sentences students wrote. New Year's is different in Japan than Australia. We celebrate New Year's from January 1st to 3rd. In Japan, we eat fried eggs, black beans, crab, lobster, and seabream on New Year's Day. I read New Year's cards from my friends. They make me happy. Many students also wrote about "Lucky Money", otoshidama , and fukubukuro.
The students were excited to answer their letters. This is the last time to exchange letters for the third-year students since they are graduating in March and Immanuel just came back from their summer vacation. It was a good opportunity for students at both schools. We look forward to continuing this kind of activity in the future.
中学3年生のみなさんがオーストラリアのアデレードにある姉妹校のインマニュエルカレッジから届いた文通の返事を書きました。今回は12月に受け取った質問の答えを書いたり、手紙の中で日本文化をさらに詳しく説明したりしました。今回の手紙は以下のような形式で作成しました。
１）あいさつ（日本語で）
２）前回の手紙に書いてあった質問に答える（英語で）
３）日本のお正月とクリスマスについて（英語で）
４）年賀状について（日本語で）
５）終わりのあいさつ（日本語で）
以下に九中生が書いた手紙の内容を少し紹介します。
New Year's is different in Japan than Australia.
日本とオーストラリアのお正月は少し違います。
We celebrate New Year's from January 1st to 3rd.
1月1日から3日までがお正月です。
In Japan, we eat fried eggs, black beans, crab, lobster, and seabream on New Year's Day.
日本ではだし巻きたまごや黒豆、カニやエビ、鯛などをお正月に食べます。
I read New Year's cards from my friends. They make me happy.
お正月には友達から届いた年賀状を読みます。年賀状をもらうと、とても嬉しいです。
また、多くの生徒が「お年玉」や「福袋」について書いていました。
生徒たちは楽しんで返事を書いていました。中学3年生は3月で卒業ですし、インマニュエルカレッジの生徒たちも夏休みが終わったばかりで返事を書く時間がありませんので、これが最後の手紙となりました。コロナ禍の中、この文通は両校にとって大変よい交流の機会となりました。
また機会があればこのような交流を続けていきたいと思っています。
